OUR OWN ROLES ON SET

Film making is a purely collaborative process whereby each creatives elements must work together to create the final motion picture; it is important during my production groups pre-production planning process that we allocate individual roles so that are certain that we have extensively covered each area so that our final product has been manufactured to present the desired conventions of our sequence.

The roles by which we have assigned are:

Editor= Will

Director= Bea

Camera operator= Cole

Art director= daisy

After being assigned the role of the director, I have further researched into exactly what I must do in order to successfully execute this position. As a production group, we have each been allocated particular roles in which we feel are best suited to each individual; my role as the director is primarily work with the cast and crew to translate the overall vision of our concept idea and get across the exact convention and genre that we are trying to achieve. I believe that I will be able to take this role on successfully through my collaboration and leadership skills all of which will allow me to work with each creative element of our group and translate the overall vision through the visual medium.

In order to prepare as a director for the shoot, I need to be able to fully understand the main purpose and vision of our opening sequence so that I am able to translate this effectively to our cast and help guide the camera operator, editor and director of art. In order to do this, I will be putting together my whole production groups mood board for the sequence and looking over our complete narrative and outline of the sequence so that I am completely familiarized with all of our intentions.

The role of the director is an immense responsibility, not only in making sure the shooting day going smoothly and that each creative element know exactly what to do but also that our artistic visions are being translated through the film making process; the mise-en-scene, camera and editing.

The most challenging part of my role during the day of the shoot will be trying to clearly translate my own intentions to the cast members who will have limited knowledge about our overall vision and getting then to execute the performances that we desire. A way in which I can help this process is by briefing my actors a couple days before the shoot so that they can turn up to the shooting day already with a string idea of the performances that we will be asking for.
