ROLES ON SET

Today, we have collectively decided upon the set roles in which we will have during production and post-production within our production group. It is important that during these crucial times of the film making process, that each group member has a specific role by which they have researched into and understand the demands of that specific role that they have been allocated

The roles of set are:

- Director

- Camera operator

- Producer

- Editor

- Art director

DIRECTOR

The principal role of the director is to control all of the creative elements of the film; they work with each of the creative elements from translating and guiding the actors with they script and characters to working with the crew on the different elements behind the camera all of which help to enhance the vision for the screen.

My skills that I offer for this specific role include that of leadership and being able to collaborate and work with the different elements, always with the interest of the final creative vision at heart.

CAMERA OPORATOR

The role of the camera operator is to ultimately control all of the technical aspects that come alongside the navigation of any camera work. From organising and blocking the camera movement with the director's vision to physically operating the camera. For this role, the individual must be able to offer skills within the creative aspect of the filming in deducing interesting and gripping angles, composition and movement to achieve the visual engagement that will enhance the performance of the cast alongside the mise-en-scene elements.

For this role, I believe that I can offer the creative element of visual engagement that is needed as my skills include thinking creatively beforehand to work out what types of angles, composition and movement would work best in a specific sequence. I am also able to work with the technical aspects of the camera and understand the physical components of it.

EDITOR

The editor's role is to essentially take all of the raw footage from production, cut it down and edit together transitions, special effects and CGI to produce a final motion picture. It is extremely important for this role to work closely with the director throughout the whole process of the film making from pre-production planning to production and finally their role in post-production in order to make sure that the story telling is prominent and attention to detail is there. Not only is this role extremely creative in the story telling element and the creative decisions editors make, but it also requires an extensive technical knowledge in its physical application using software's etc.

Areas whereby I feel I would be able to contribute to this certain role would be through my ability to work with software and picking up skills quickly and efficiently.

ART DIRECTOR

This certain role is ultimately responsible for the visual style of films; they decide how the characters, props, set and the environment of the film is going to look like from having a clear understanding of the script and further translating its mood, atmosphere and overall concept. After understanding the vision of the director, they are then able to create their designs to determine the tone, mood and colour pallets of the film which all create atmosphere. Their involvement spans from the very beginning of the directors origins of the film and throughout the whole of the film making process.

I believe that I could contribute effectively through this role as my management and organising skills are a strength of mine.

Producer

The role of the producer entails putting together the film from start to finish; they are fully involved in the practical,
financial and creative aspects of the whole filming process. They are in charge of hiring all creative elements; director, writer, and all areas of the creative team.

For this specific role I believe that my management and social skills would benefit in creating a good work environment and help things go smoothly.
